Well, in that case, we think you’re going to like the Autoblog plugin!

You’ve probably struggled with alternatives like FeedWordPress, WP-o-Matic, Yaab autoblogger or even autoblogged… I know we have… over many years at that, but this is gonna change that, and in a big, supported, evolving way, because Autoblog just plain works.

There’ s no coding necessary, no complicated instructions and no worries!

All you need to do is to download the plugin and then drop autoblog.php and /autoblogincludes/ into /mu-plugins/ and you’ll be provided with as simple site admin menu called, you guessed it ‘Auto Blog’

Now, copy and paste in your feed URL, give it a name of your choosing (for admin purposes) and select a blog that you want it to post to.

Of course, you can also use our Blog and User Creator or Batch blog and user creator to create hundreds, or even thousands of blogs, in a matter of minutes too!

So, this plugin (plus our blog and user creation ones) essentially allows you to create a WordPress MU site, with thousands of blogs that are automatically published to by RSS feeds, within a few hours…. with no code knowledge required!

And we heard you wanted options… well, we’ve got them for you too! Autoblog allows you to:

• Choose if you want new posts to be published straight away, pending review or as drafts
• Select any author from your WPMU install
• Assign posts to categories and / or apply tags to them and / or import post tags with the post
• Filter posts that are included or excluded based on keywords or phrases
• Use excerpts (number of words configurable) or whole posts and choose what link (if any) you want to give to the original source
• Select how often you want Autoblog to check for posts

It’s essentially a white label WordPress MU blog hosting service – in under a minute you can get your own WPMU setup with an unlimited number of free blogs – and then pay to get access to extra themes, plugins, storage and to use your own domain or run your own ads.

We think it’s pretty neat and we’re hoping you’ll like it too.

Specifically, they were publishing MMS photos of the Boxing Day Tsunami, direct to their blogs, which were then forming a core component of their coverage of the disaster.

So, when they came to Incsub to talk about migrating over 34,000 blogs from their (very old) custom ‘Petrograd’ system to WordPress MU, including reproducing and massively enhancing that functionality – naturally we couldn’t have been more excited.

However, of equal importance was a moderation system that allowed administrators at VG Nett to view and post moderate all uploaded images, published MMS components, embedded video content, comments and pages.

And we made that for them too – here’s an idea of the level of complexity involved (just click on the thumbnail below):

But we didn’t stop there either – every blog has a ‘master theme’ that can be converted into almost any style of theme that he user likes, just from the theme options.

Site-wide ratings also allow admins (and users) to show top rated posts from across the site or from individual blogs with ease.

And of course, all of this integrates and hooks in with VGs extensive registration and authentication system – meaning new users not only have to jump through the usual hoops, but also enter in security codes they receive via SMS.

All in all, it’s a massive, and we like to think, very impressive, project that showcases the power of WordPress MU to be used in a major media site.

WP.MU is a service that takes all the pain out of installing, setting up, configuring and customizing WordPress MU.

The front page of the site has got it all going on with plenty of ad integration, log in, blog creation and complete integration with existing iG products like their search, portal bar and so on.

Lower down the page there are global tags, featured blogs, latest posts, more ads and plenty of action. Oh, and in case you hadn’t noticed it’s all in Portuguese so we had to get it absolutely right when it came to accents and translation.

A particular feature of this project was the themes. As well as a range of customizable features, Incsub created over 40 themes for the site – each unique, each with customizable backgrounds, headers and sidebars and each catering to a particular Brazilian passion, ranging from football to manga, travel and shopping.

The core of the frontpage is built around editorially selected articles shown in a dynamic, javascript driven slider alongside which sits custom blog rankings tool that can be configured to track the most popular blogs on the site over the last hour, day, week or month.

Further down the page there’s a live listing of every post across the site, complete with the avatar of the poster.

And as if that wasn’t enough information, alongside you can see all the latest comments too!

On the far right you can see current users online (which ties in nicely with the built in mailing and ‘friends’ system below, next to that are listed the newest bloggers (hence the default avatars) and on the far left there’s integration with nationen.tv.

And all the good stuff isn’t kept for the front page. As you can see above, we’ve integrated a comprehensive statistics package based on open source analytics software Piwik, a fully functionaly ‘Friends’ component and also a completely integrated internal messaging system that will notify users when they receive a message.
