In 1999 David Squires coined the phrase 'incorporated subversion' to describe how software should be able to be subverted and changed with contextual use.

In 2004 James Farmer moved his Radio Userland blog to WordPress and renamed it 'Incorporated Subversion', and in 2007 co-founded Incsub.
